ABOUT ME

Hello! Nice to meet you. I’m Andi Dinanti, usually known by Dinan or you can call me Dee /Di  for short. I’m a freelance multimedia artist based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I used to be a part time photographer and full time dance student but I changed my path to become a visual artist starting 2017 and then January 2021 I decided to become a multimedia artist. Right now, I’m currently focusing on Film studies and Illustration, I’m also trying to build my own studio.

I’ve been into the arts and sports since I was very little, around 3 years old. I’ve tried any art classes or sports clubs that are available in my neighborhood. I’ve filled my days starting from drawing, dancing, swimming, tennis and then painting, photography, sketching, graphic design, filmmaking, both film and photo editing, and now to directing. 

​

I consider myself as a full time student. I’ve always learned from places I’ve been, people I met, any volunteering experience, classes I took and finally getting experiences and jobs from people who fully sees me. I’m a producer, well just inside the walls of my bedroom. I like to sing or dance in my bedroom. I have a huge penchant for books, films, and nature. I’m an introvert at heart, but I can click with many people, as long as we have the same vibe. My way to recharge my social batteries is by drinking hojicha milk tea or lychee ice tea while listening to Bon Iver songs, Banda Neira, or Acoustic Soul playlist from spotify.

I’m a huge animal person, I grew up and still is fascinated by the animals that exists in the world. Cats are cute but I’m a dog person. If you give me golden retriever or a black labrador or a german husky or a siberian husky… I will probably die of cuteness and gratitude because I’ve always wanted a dog.

Also a bit of a language fact, I’ve studied english from when I was around 3. I don’t know exactly if it counts as my native language but I’ve been speaking english as long as I’ve spoken my Bahasa Indonesia. Whenever I talk, I always mix up english vocabulary with my mother tongue. It’s a bit confusing for some because I sometimes throw in a fancy lingo and then ended up have to explain further which I don’t mind because it taught me a lot on how to be a good communicator. My cupboard is filled with english and Indonesian books, but mostly filled with specific subjects like filmmaking, photography, psychology, philosophy and self help books. Also I grew up with western media and old school content from disney channel, nickelodeon, cartoon network and animax. So if you ever found me in the streets or neighborhood, just ask me if I know Foster’s Home of Imaginary Friends and I probably will squeal right then and there.

So right now my main job is in the photography realm and sometimes I do cinematography / videography as well. I studied Dance since 2010 til 2019. 2020 & 2021 is the year I kinda focus more on my film studies and photography. I started becoming serious about cinematography and photography around 2015 where I was a Vis Comm. Design student in Jakarta. I juggled dance and college. and then transferred to an art institution to study Film & TV full time. I attend that school for 1 year and a half then pursued my freelance opportunities. My main title would a dance documenter.

I took classes in the local microcinema community in 2020, I took 2 classes that are focusing on directing. I also took took a short intensive course in an established film foundation that happened in 2019.

I want to be a dance film director someday. Currently honing my skills in cinematography and editing too. Been hoarding a lot of references from the past 3 years. Being a director is my main goal in the future. Hopefully I’ll get to do that while I pursue education as well. 

I got into photography and films because it’s my way to see the world in another perspective that is foreign and wonderfully exciting. I want to remember every frame that I took and accompanied with the feelings that I felt. I want them to be the pieces that can be remembered, forever.

Spare time is usually spent reading or learning new skills. I love novels but my bookshelf is mostly filled with self-help books and specific subjects like film editing, film directing, drawing, psychology etc. I also would spend the time searching for inspiration through looking at works of graphic design, music, and film. I’m an animal person but I love cats the most, big and small. An introvert at heart and enjoy conversing and connecting with people especially if we have a lot in common.
